vive la différence

As a demonstration of how different we remain even after 23 1/2 years of love, I offer this recent exchange with my husband.  What's remarkable to me, always, is how many surprises remain, even after all of this time.  I may know him so well, or think I do, and yet he retains the ability to dazzle me with a perspective that is not at all my own.

It's a constant process of unfolding, this long, long love. I learn something new all the time.

In typical fashion, now that we're exploring Bikram yoga, going to class together or separately, I am curious as hell about the Why of it. Which naturally means I need to a read a book or two, in addition to Googling.  So I must have idly said out loud, "I wonder about the sequence of poses, and why they're put together the way they are, what the purpose is."

To which he retorted (something like):

"What, you don't think he just put together all the poses that he was good at?"

Boom.  Done.

Where I always want to dig and research and get the book(s) on whatever, Joe's just going to do the sequence.  And guess what? He'll get just as much benefit whether he knows the back-story or not.

Because really, honestly, the back-story ain't the point, is it?

I do still crave the k-nowledge, but I know he's so right.  Rather than reading someone's self-aggrandizing, trademark-supporting words about why something is the best thing since sliced bread, why not just do it, see if it works?

So that's what I'm doing. Practicing the poses Bikram was best at, not thinking over much, drinking LOTS of water, sweating my ass off.
