Obituary: Carla Marcella Trélaün Tocci

Carla Marcella Trélaün Tocci

January 16, 1969 – April 22, 2013

Our beloved Carla rests with the angels. After a long battle with glioblastoma, she left this world peacefully, her devoted husband Sidino by her side.

A San Francisco native, Carla went to the French American Bilingual School, Everett Junior High, Lowell High School and San Francisco State University, where she earned her BFA in Painting and Ceramics. She delighted in her French heritage, working for many years as a server at La Folie, combining her love of language and fine food. Carlita was an artist through and through, whether it was her buche de noel covered with perfect little meringue mushrooms, marzipan animals,  and frosting swirled like bark, or baskets of delicately perfect Christmas cookies, or painting, or ceramics. She had the enviable ability to do everything well.

Carla’s talents weren’t limited to food, art and language. She also had a remarkable physical grace – she swam like a seal, taught gymnastics, rode horses, played beautiful piano. Seriously, she could do with excellence anything she put her mind to. Super-competitive, she crushed everyone at Scrabble, in French or in English.

More recently Carla was devout in her Catholicism, finding refuge and peace in the teachings of the Church to which she returned at the time of her marriage. And throughout all her health trials, she was a devoted mother, passing on her bright eyes, big heart and keen wit to her daughter.

Carla leaves behind her loving husband Sidino and daughter Elizabeth, mother-in-law Sylvia Tocci, her parents Sara and Jean-Paul Trélaün, sisters Martine and Ariane, and nephew Laurent, as well as many doting relations and friends on the Tocci and Trélaün sides of the family. And naturally the many members of her medical team, to which every member of her family is grateful. Carla was truly nothing short of a medical miracle, challenging established notions of life expectancy, teaching us all a lesson or two (or ten) about what it means to be alive.

May you rest in peace, dear Carla.  Our hearts are broken, but our spirits glad, buoyed by your tremendous strength, faith and courage. Rest in peace.
