How today begins

The thing about getting up at 4:30am is, well, that it's early. It's early and it's dark.

And it's bliss.

Because this is the time, the 4:30 - 8:30 stretch, when I get to do what I want to do because I want to do it.

Because I made the time. Carved it out of what might have been sleep-time, so that I can read and think and write. And walk the super-active dog for at least an hour.

So today begins with me sitting here, reading Cheryl Strayed's tiny beautiful things and thinking about how great she is, how inspiring, as a writer, as a speaker, as a person.

Country Mouse Monday: watch, notice, see

There are moments in my Country Mouse existence when I'm struck dumb by what I see, mesmerized, hypnotized by the unfolding simple beauty.

I freeze and watch it unfold, almost afraid to breathe, certainly afraid to miss it.

Moments like yesterday, sitting on the stoop by the front door next to which some poppies unaccountably chose to grow.

Love this book: Wild by Cheryl Strayed

No real post from me this morning because I spent my usual early-morning writing immersed in the pages of Wild by Cheryl Stray, completely sucked in.

I just started the book last night and so far can't put it down.  I should have it completely devoured by later tonight.  Regretting terribly that I have to go to work now instead of staying here immersed in Cheryl's adventure on the trail, her trial by trail.
