Country Mouse Monday: Make, not Do
Monday, February 17, 2014 at 09:31AM Today's a very different kinda Country Mouse Monday than usual, given that it's the very first Monday of my new life.
The very first Monday that this Country Mouse is home not just 'cause it's a holiday or vacation or a sick day.
Home on a Monday because Home is where I work now.
I feel like I'm walking around with new eyes on, really seeing everything around me in a completely fresh way. So much potential, so many possibilities, and so very many places to get bogged down by chores and sloth. But oh no, not me!
It's a big challenge, figuring how to live like this now, with no one else setting my imperatives, no deadlines but the ones I set myself. I think that what I need to do, in order for this to work best, the way I want it to, is to
Focus on the Make, not the Do.
I mean, let's be honest. I could use up every single day just ticking repetitive things off To Do lists. Making sure there's food, the bills are paid, the clean laundry's not sitting in a pile on the floor. All that stuff's important, sure, but I need to keep it from expanding to fill every bit of available time. Which it could do.
The point of this new time is to Make. Produce. Create.
All that Do? The very efficient, faux-productive enemy of Make.
The Make is the harder part, the part that requires carving out time, that requires putting big goals and Me first, Me as a vehicle of meaning rather than Me as a folder of towels.
So I'm off and running in this new freedom, building some lists, sure, but also building in time, especially this week, to dream big dreams, between staring at the bees in the apricot blossoms and putting sweet peas in the ground, to make this new life for myself.
