Summer lovin'

Summer is so tricky.  All I want is to stay home.  There are so many invitations, so many parties, fairs and festivals. I love my friends and yet I don't want to go anywhere.

I love you, but could you let me be, please? Til, like, September?

I just want to be here, walking around, taking it in. A little bit stupid, in a bit of a stupor, quiet, busy, idle.

This time of year the choices feel so acute. All of the work I've done since March is coming to literal fruition right now. I can't bear to miss it.

Sure, I'd love to spend the day with you, but the whole time I'll be thinking, damn it, I could be canning those apricots, by the time I get home, it'll be too late, and tomorrow they'll be too far gone.  Yes, it would be fun to hang out, but I really should put up some pesto, harvest the camomile, fill jars with honey, plant more cilantro, listen to birds.

I'm in love with summer and don't want to be parted.

If you want me, I'll be here, in my apron and gloves, doing stuff and doing nothing.  If you want to hang out, grab a hat and come over.  I am more than happy to put you to work, to give you that chance to connect your hands to the dirt, your heart to the earth. Or let you just walk around and stare.

Friends, I love you, but just don't make me choose.  I don't want to leave this place right now. Too in love to be parted.

xx

and because i can't say "Summer lovin'" without thinking of this song, here ya go. ;>
