August reading round-up, yay!

Ooh, this has been such a great month for reading: 9 books and counting!

That's one of the BEST things about vacation, for sure -- or maybe I should say about long plane-rides.

Ten-hour flight? No problem. I've got a book!

And honestly, I can't say enough good things about the Kindle that I purchased finally after years of saying I would never get one.  Of everything I read in August so far, only two titles were on actual paper.

I can't lie, though.  I vastly prefer the feel and look of an actual paper-book in my hands (especially the book I'm reading now, not pictured at left, more on that below). Truly nothing beats the satisfaction of cracking the spine, underlining passages, scribbling notes in the margins.

But oh, does the Kindle facilitate my book-gluttony.

I am thrilled to have spent so much time, nose-in-text, this month. Of everything read, I'd have to say that my three faves were Queen's Gambit, We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves, and A Tale for the Time Being. All three absolutely riveted me.

And the Kindle revealed another benefit: I never saw the cover art for the Fowler book, so was completely surprised at the turn the story takes early on. That made the experience of the story even better and fresher.

And the month's not over.

What am I reading now?

I am pleased and proud to be reading Raising My Rainbow: Adventures in Raising a Fabulous, Gender Creative Son as part of the From Left to Write book club. It's truly a privilege to be reading this book about an issue whose time has truly arrived.

This is a book I'm reading in paper form, highlighting with a colored pencil and adding post-it flags to mark the passages that most move me. I am so looking forward to writing about it next week as part of the club.

Go pre-order this book!  It comes out [oh, ha ha ha] September 3rd. Read more about Raising My Rainbow here.

I'll be done with Rainbow by tomorrow, no doubt, since I can't put it down. And then what? Is there a book you've read recently and particular loved?  Make a recommendation in the Comments.

Have Kindle, will download!
