Happier at Home: little altars everywhere

Super-nerd here, reporting in for duty.

I've just finished shelving 2013 books, and in the process, creating or expanding some sections.

Biology and Animals got a fine re-do, and Kid Lit's getting its own shelves. Historical Fiction continues to grow, especially the Marie Antoinette gallery, as I devour these titles as fast as I can.

I love arranging books just-so, adding topical trinkets, making little dioramas, pleasing my own eye.

Welcome, welcome, 2014!

FINALLY I have some time to indulge in my favorite tasks of the new year -- a pox upon mid-week holidays! a blight upon no-time-off!

Finally, it's time for New Year's Ritual & Nerdery!

August reading round-up, yay!

Ooh, this has been such a great month for reading: 9 books and counting!

That's one of the BEST things about vacation, for sure -- or maybe I should say about long plane-rides.

Ten-hour flight? No problem. I've got a book!

And honestly, I can't say enough good things about the Kindle that I purchased finally after years of saying I would never get one.  Of everything I read in August so far, only two titles were on actual paper.

ha, never say never: yes, i bought a Kindle

It's true. After deciding that I would never buy an e-reader, I have at last bought one.

Um, yeah: Never say never.

My rationale was our upcoming trip to France (departure in 7 days!). At the rate I've been reading this year -- 34 books since January 1st -- and knowing how many books I can go through on the flight over alone, not to mention how many more glorious reading hours there can be on vacation,

there's no way I could pack enough books.

Favorite New Year's ritual: 2012 books!

Like the giant dweeby bookworm I am, I am so excited that it's New Year's Day again and I can indulge in my favorite little January 1st ritual: reviewing and shelving everything I read in the prior year.

I never shelve anything until the first of the new year. I just stack and stack, see how high they climb up the wall, until today when I sort them and begin the process of making room for them on my crowded shelves.

And also today I tally and rejoice.

Hurray, 2012, in which I read 44 books!
