BOOM: clearing the way

I might have just laid a bomb under the tidy little edifice of my life. Of my life as I know it. Of the 9-to-5 part of my life that has gone on and on and on. That part may be over. I might have just blown up my security, detonated all the things I’ve worked for. It could all be laying in shambles shortly. It’s possible.

What I know for sure?

I quit my job and I like it.

Tamagotchi: c'est moi

When they first came out, I bought one for The Kid and, also, one for me. I love gadgets or -- called another way, a nicer way -- tools that are specific to their purpose. It’s the same reason that I love sitting in the exam room before the doctor comes, and admiring all of the labeled drawers and compartments, knowing the right tool is right there, waiting for the hand that needs it.

And cute little Japanese gadgets? Well, forget it: I really can’t resist.

one last cigarette

At my sister’s grave on her birthday, the first one since she died, I was glad of one thing: that by the time we lost her, she was no longer afraid.

A long wasting-away offers that mercy to the dying, at least – that lengthy loosening of a tight grip on life, that slow slide into a silent, staring insensibility, eyes open but seeing something altogether other, and then slipping away completely.

One of my favorite things to do in the wee hours of the morning is to scroll through Facebook or Twitter and see what wonders my friends have shared since I last checked.

I don't read anything right away -- I just click and click, opening up browser-tabs until I've got a good stash. Then, when I've got about 6 windows open, 6 items ready to read, I take my time reading each one, and in this way, rock-hop around, taking in random info, getting inspired.

I never know where exactly I'm headed. I just go.

Happy is my home state

Truth is: when I am most myself, I'm jumping around. 

I'm happy. Can't help it.

I should remember that anytime I lose my wiggle, my bounce, that something -- something outside of me -- is wrong. Some circumstance -- it ain't me -- is harshing my natural buzz.
